Should Toshio and Kiyoshi be responsible for their family's debt? essay #4

It doesn’t seem right that a the kids should take the fault for something that the parents have done, especially when the kids didn’t know what was actually going on and the decisions that the parents take that made them be indent.

If Toshio and Kiyoshi end up being responsible for their families’ debt they would have trouble starting their own life because of their families dept. It would seem like it would be hard to try to start your own life. But before you can you have to figure out how to finish your families and you don’t know how long it would take for them to be able to start fresh.

Families debt can hold someone back specially when you don’t know how far in your family can be and it can make people not trust you or things will just be harder to be accomplished because of the background the your family might have.

At the end of the story Kyoshi figures out a way to help out his family he realizes that the only way he can release his family from depth is to join the military. No matter what way he would make it back his parents would be able to get money from the military (dead or alive). So when he left and started to make money he would send it to his parents so they can pay off what they owed then he realized the he became really good at gambling. That helped him be able to send more money back home and be able to free his family from all the depth they were in because they would have to deal with it eventually.

So he was able to help out his family so much and was able to pull them through so they can all start fresh and not have to worry about it. Him doing all this for his family and being able to set everything a side just to free his family from everything was incredible. To help the people that you love and to do what ever it takes to help them and not to see them suffer is what family is all about and all they wanted was to be able to live with a sense of freedom and he was able to give that to them.

Chapter 10

Chapter 10 is all about being able to add more words in your Writing and knowing where it is the proper place to add those words. It also made me realize that we have learned to take out a lot of words from our writing. Most of the time if you start omitting to many words the writing might start sounding a little short with what you want to say. One just has to make sure that when you start adding words to your sentences that they don't become to overwhelming. Also you have to make sure to what you are adding more words to and that if it is the proper thing to add it to.

I would use this chapter in my future writing because it can help me expand my writing and know what the proper way is to do it. Also when i want to add more words that I would not expand my sentences to long that the would just be on going sentences but that at the end they would make sense. And that when someone will read it they wont drift off and just think that the my sentences are going to be to long; but that with that I can be able to get to the point and explain my self more clearly.

Kiyoshi's mother became very ill after her teeth got rotten. The dentist had to remove all her teeth to help her ease the pain but it was already so bad that the infection go worse. She would try so hard to work even though she couldn't because she knew that she was the only income they had. so if she would feel just a tad better she would get right to work and push her self pass the limit with out realizing it and then she would get extremely sick again and the she couldn't do anything after that because she would get so bad. so that would effect them in different ways because she wasn't able to be there for her kids and her husband. Kiyoshi's mothers illness lead to her telling Kiyoshi about how in debt the where with everyone and that this has been going since they moved to Hawaii.

So that made her believe that she was bad luck and that she would bring bad luck to her family. One thing that she says is that if you are in debt starting that new year that it will bring bad luck that year. She was very superstition about everything and thing, and what everyone would do. She would believe in every superstition that you could possibly think of and that would effect her and her family in so many ways, and in there relationship between them and their mother.

Chpter 40

Chapter 40 is about learning how to Abbreviate and when is the right time to do it when writing something. There are many ways one can abbreviate things but does’t mean it right for example is “avoiding redundant titles such as Dr. Amy Day, MD. Choose on title or the other: Dr. Amy Day or Amy Day, M.” That shows a good way to limit yourself instead of abbreviating everything throughout your writing because if might distract the reading from the writing.

I would tend to abbreviate lots of thing throughout my writing and this chapter had me thinking about it and the ways I could use it the right way. There is a lot of things we can abbreviate but we have to make sure it is at the right time because for example if we would abbreviate something before the reader know what your talking about the reader will be lost before they finish what you want to let them know.

Essay # 3 Forgiving

The importance in forgiving someone is to be able to move on with your own life, especially if that someone is close to you.

Victor learns to forgive his father because he learns that his father truly cared about him and he was so proud of him. That made Victor reflect on how he thought about his father. Victor also realized that his father regretted everything that he did and how it affected both him and his mother.

After Victor realized that it was all for the best he was able to move things aside that happened with his father and move on with his life without holding a grudge against his dad and that lifted a big weight off his back and made him feel like he was able to start all over with his life and have a clean fresh start. Victor realized why Tomas always viewed his father as a great person. Victor was also able to have a stronger relationship with Thomas after all that happen. So it made Victor grow up as a person and was able to forgive and forget and also to be able to trust again.

Rules for Writers Ch.45

This chapter is about capitalizing the proper words in a sentence and how it is very important to know what words are the right ones to capitalize and the right time to do it. One thing we have to be careful with is capitalizing common nouns to make them seem important, that is a mistake that most people seem to do. So its important to know the difference from a proper noun and a common noun. There is some exceptions to it but its is good to know what those are too.

This Chapter will help me in the future for when I am revising a paper of anything I might be looking over to know if I didn't capitalize something that i should of. Also learning the difference from a proper noun and a common noun because feel like i have made those mistakes time and time before and this chapter has made me realize how to capitalize things that need to be capitalized. Also there are so many things that i didn't think that would need to be capitalized that really do need to be.

What do you think about the relationship between Thomas and Victor?

There relationship was really funky because at first it was a one way realationship Thomas would always be the one to try to talk to Victor even though Victor would always push him away Thomas would always come back. In the video you can tell that Thomas really cares for Victor even though Victor does and says all these things to him. The funny thng is that they are both so different Thomas loves to tell stories and talk to others and Victor is very serious and doesnt like to comunicate with anyone. But Thomas always seems to have something to say and Victor will just tell him to shut up but that wont stop Thomas from saying what he wants to say. But towards the end of the video Victor learned to care for Thomas and realize that he is actually a great friend and that he is there to help him out.

It would seem like Victor would push him away because he was scared to get attached because of what happend with his dad. That when he got close to his dad Victor felt like he just left him with out any consideration and I bet he feels that he is scared Thomas will do something like that to him and he just doest want to get hurt. So Victor would push people away so he wont get hurt like he did with his father. Because for any kid that would be hard to deal with and Thomas knows how hard it was for him that his dad just left him. So Thomas just tries to be there for Victor as much as he can.

Rules For Writers ch. 48

The topics in chapter 48 are going to be useful to me because they are going to help me distinguish the different types of arguments. Stereotypes have always been a big deal because people are always stereotyping about everything and everyone. Stereotyping is common because of our human tendency to perceive. Another thing is drawing anologies an analogy poits out a similrity.Analogies can be an effectice means of arguing a point.
Knowing the different types of argument my help the focus towards the story. I think this chapter will help me recognize the diferences. Also when im writing about sensitive issues to focuse on sertain things and how to makw it even better.

Essay #2 Sooting Dad

The character that I most closely relate to is Sarah Vowell from the short story Shooting Dad. I relate to her in many different ways. One example is how we both have different ideas and feelings about life compared to our families. Though we both listen to what they have to say and understand their feelings; we chooses to be individuals and follow our own thoughts.

Sarah and I do not choose to purposely follow different paths then our parents, we both do it because we are aware of what our believes are, and know that we must respect our parents but know that we do not have to follow in their paths to be a good person. We don’t go against the grain of our families to start trouble or cause arguments, it is just simply who we are as a person.

It feels good to relate to Sarah because I know that I am not the only person that goes against their parents believes. I know how hard it can be to feel like the outcast of the family. It would be easier to just agree with everything that is said and not start any trouble, but it makes me feel good as a person to know that I stood up for what I truly believe in and be my own individual person, not what others feel I should be.

Rules for Writers Ch. 47

Chapter 47 was about constructing reasonable arguments. It shows if you are too aggressive, too passive and an assertive tone. One thing is when creating a reasonable argument you must explain the understanding and the truth of the subject. So that way it will be easier to convince your audience about the point that your are trying to prove in your argument. And once that happens it will become easier for your audience to fallow along with what you are saying and then can have them thinking about your topic. This charter is all about creating it and the proper way of setting it up which is shown on pg 367-371 and it also shows how to properly set up the work sited page.

This chapter can help me in the future and it actually could of helped me when i was taking my speech class but that over with. But it can be useful for other classes that i might have to create and argument for. Also prepare me for them and I will have knowledge about how to be more in depth with my arguments.

Rules for writers, Chapter 46

Chapter 46 was about understanding your text and what your reading about. The chapter helped me understand the understanding of the text. Away to summarize a text you must find the thesis which is the main idea . Then you should divide the text into small pieces since a summary is short, to make summarizing easyer. To outline a text you should put the authors thesis and the key points in your own words. This chapter is very helpfully with braking down a text to understand it better.This chapter can help me when I read future reading and it will help me break things down. Also knowing who the writing is for like knowing the audince to who the paper is for and knowing how to read the text in the future.

Frozen Memories

I would have never thought that I could find two people in my life that would mean so much to me and would become a big part of my life. This picture is significant to me because of the people in it.
I have so many pictures to choose from and so many memories that I have made with other people, but this one was one that stood out to me because these girls have been by my side since high school. I know if anything happens that I can count on them for anything that I would ever need, they wouldn’t think twice about it.
This picture was taken on the day that Kate, the one on the left, got her license. We were so excited that we wanted to celebrate so we went to go get soft-serve at Fosters Freeze. This picture explains how we can have a good time no matter where we are even if we are sitting in the back of a pick-up truck having ice cream. The reason I picked this picture is because it’s a reminder of one of the many fun times we have had. This picture makes me feel good and I know that with these girls by my side we will have more fun days to come. This picture is a significant in my life because of how much my friends mean to me.

Rules for Writers Ch. 4

In chapter 4 focuses on building effective paragraphs. One important thing in a paragraph is the main point it should be clear and the readers should be able to know what the paragraph is about. Also the rest of the paragraph should focus around the main point. There are different patterns to organize a paragraph in 4c it shows the examples of doing it. Once you get the a pattern then you paragraph will be easier to form and then to go on from there.

I will use this chapter as a reference when i am stuck on a paragraph because it has shown me new ways to make a paragraph easier to build. Also helped me realize that I have to make sure that my paragraph is clear so my readers wont get lost and they can stay focused through out the hole thing. This chapter will be very important in the future because it show information that I can use in my future essays.

Superman and Me

Smart Indians were dangerous to Indians and people that were not Indians because they were expected to fail and not answer any questions in class , and also they wouldn't want they to help a teacher and do anything to make themselves seem like they know anything. they would get bullied if they were smart and it wasn't only by the people that are not Indians because they didn't have any expectations. So others were scared that they could get better jobs and make more money and have a successful life. This also effects the society but in a positive way and if one is close to their family or a cult its hard to step out and want to do your own thing because then they are pointing fingers and looking at you if your doing something wrong but all your trying to do is better your self. That is all Alexie was trying to do with his life and it was something he loved to do and he was fallowing his dreams.

Now in society one is expected to be smart and go far in life and if you don't you either feel lost or that you didn't try hard enough and even feel like you failed your self or someone. No one can make you do anything in life at the end of the day it will be all about you and what you really want to do with you life and every decision that you make will make a difference in your life. And it seems that Alexie learned that at a young age and he realized that he just needed to do something for himself and for other in his life and those around him. Education can save someones life because it can teach them what is out there and new things that they didnt know about them selfs. Alexie knew that if he could do it others can to and he wanted to show the students that he works with that education life has more opportunities and more doors open if you try.

Rules for Writers, Chapers 2 and 3

Chapter two focuses on the different parts of drafting and essay, you start out with your thesis which is the main focus of your writing piece. For a thesis to be done you have to do it they you have to revise it a couple of times before its done. Then the body paragraphs have to support your thesis. Sometimes it easier if before you start writing you have a plan of what you want to say a Little like sketching it out before actually putting it on the paper. It also helps if your know the order that you want your information to go so it can be well organized on the paper and to make sure that its not going back and forth because if it does you might miss out somethings that you want to say or they wont be able to fit in properly into they essay.

Chapter three its about revising your work. When doing so you should make sure that you do it more than once because you might catch other mistakes that you didn't see before and you might be surprised how may other things you might want to change after the first revision. Make sure that when you are revising you keep in mind who your audience is and who you are writing it to. You might want to take out a lot or you might find your self adding other things that you didn't realize you could. After you do everything you possibly think you can do to change and move things around to make it better you should proofread it. That would have to be the last step before turning it in. Proofreading is something you might want to make time to do because it is time consuming and it is the final thing to do to make sure your essay is the way you want it to be.

Educational Goals

To start off i want to say that I like school. So far I've liked all my classes and I find them more interesting then when I was in high school and I think its because I actually get to chose what I want to take. I'm hoping this class helps me improve my writing skills and the way that I write because I have the tendency to repeat my self and then I don't really know how to make it sound better. I like to pace my self when i do my work i don't like when I'm rushed because I feel like I don't really get to say what I want to when I am doing it.

My plans for next year are that I'm going to move to Texas with my best friend and i am really exited. my parets dont want me to leave but i know if i dont do it now i will never have the chance to do it again, so i feel like i have to take this oppertunity that i have and not throw it away and at least i will never have to live with asking my self what if? or why didnt i ever...?. We have been planing to move since our senior year of high school but it has never worked out, but I'm so thankful that I'm finally going to be able to accomplish this goal.
